Well known American bike manufacturing company UM Motorcycles along with its Indian partner Lohia Autos are planning to enter in the Indian market under the banner of their joint venture UML. The bike would be a 400cc cruiser one which will take against the likes of Bajaj Avenger and Harley Davidson. The official news says that it’ll be launched in the 2nd quarter of the year with 2 base models and then a model will be added to increase the portfolio every 6-months.
If believed, this India bound bike has been manufactured from the blank sheet of paper, but will get the maximum of the security features like ABS and others. The company also plans to sell its 400cc engines in the overseas market and develop India slowly as the production of even higher capacity engines well. Though, the bikes in India will not exceed 500cc capacity.
UML also has shared plans to open nearly 75 dealerships across the country in 50 cities by July 2015, majorly in western and southern regions. Initially, UML will be using the Lohia Autos Kashipur, Uttrakhand based facility for the country-based operations. Well, the market is definitely growing in India for the automobile, but it would be too early to say that the UML would be successful in India as it is abroad.
